🥉 Black Belt Heavyweight M3

Entered my first ever IBJJF NoGi World Championships today on short notice and with little preparation. Worked my way through to the semi finals where I lost to the division winner, who was better than the rest today.

This is my third bronze medal at World Championship level this year (taking double bronze at World Masters in the Gi) and the fourth of my career. While I am proud of these achievements, I know what it is I need to do to land on the top step and I will not leave competition until I do so. Actually I likely won’t ever retire from competition because I love it 😂

Congratulations to my student Alex Bui who took silver in his division, also in his first ever NoGi Worlds. This young man progresses at an impressive rate and the sky really is the limit for him. You’ve made me and the team very proud. Congratulations to Adele Fornarino who punched her ticket to the Black Belt finals and to Angus Tonkin who proved yet again he is world class. Congratulations to all my friends and fellow Aussies who smashed it this weekend 👏

Now for the many thankyous… Thank you to my students, teammates and training partners Dominance MMA. Thank you to my Coach Dave Hart. Thank you to Robert Drysdale for the training in Vegas and to the manny people who supported me over the weekend. Thank you to my team of coaches and staff for keeping Dominance MMA Thomastown running while I’m away chasing my dreams of being a better competitor and thereby a better coach. Thank you to my sponsors Fuji Sports Australia for the best apparel in the game. Thank you to Chris from @stridephysiohealth for putting me back together and making me stronger every time I hurt myself. Finally, thank you to my love Casey who supports me to the fullest and really does sacrifice a lot to help me do what I love to do. I appreciate you ❤️

That’s a wrap on 2023. Big things coming in 2024 ⚔️

🥈at the No-Gi World Championships
Not satisfied with the performance, but it was nice to go out there and prove that I belong with the World’s best. As the last competition of my juvenile career, I’m glad that I was able to end it off with a decent performance and look forward towards the new challenges that await.
3 years of training has lead up to this moment and it couldn’t have been done without the support of my team back in Melbourne.
Firstly, I’d like to thank my coaches Lincoln, Ivan and Ron for all the coaching, training and advice you have provided for me from the very first day I stepped onto the mats, and until now. It truly means the world to me and it’s something no medal could ever represent. Extra thanks towards the crew supporting me on the day in Coach Dave and Angus, it really made all the difference.
Secondly I’d like to thank the crew back at home whom have beat me up over and over again to make me who I am today. I’m sure you all know who you’re 😂. To me, this competition was the culmination of everyone’s training and couldn’t have happened without everyone’s input towards creating a positive culture where everyone can improve. In addition to this, all the support from other affiliates have been crucial for my development across the years. Special thanks goes towards a few of my training partners who have helped me substantially throughout my mini training camp goes to Juzzy, Gab, Lil Chris, Brent, Kdog, Armenian George, less tolerable George, Steve, Luke, Vincent and many many many more.
Lastly I’d like to thank all my friends and family who have put up with me and supported me throughout this journey. This is only the beginning and the future is already looking bright.
