After defeating her opponent, Amanda Alequin, in record time, Adele had this to say in her most recent Instagram post:
In this sport, it’s important to stay consistent so you are ready when the opportunity arises. Less than 2 weeks ago, I got the call to replace Ffion on the main card of the biggest promotion jiu jitsu has to offer. I was in Australia at the time, knowing I would get little to no training camp for this fight. Replacing the number 1 grappler at 125 lbs is big shoes to fill. However, i backed myself and knew I could not pass up on this opportunity.
Even though my preparation for this match was short, we productively used the time we had to study tape and work specific positions to make sure I was going in prepared and sharp. I’m happy that I was able to come away with a submission victory.
Thank you Amanda Alequin for accepting this match. In no way is it easy to have your opponent changed 8 days prior to stepping on the mats. Only few would understand how hard it is to spend your time and energy training and studying for a particular opponent, only to have that changed last minute, yet you were nothing but eager to keep the show going. This shows true character and dedication.
When I say it takes a village it really does, so I want to thank everyone involved in the lead up. Thanks you to all my training partners at Dominance MMA, Atos Jiu Jitsu and Absolute MMA for helping me prepare. Thank you to Dave Hart and Andre Galvao for being in my corner and supporting me and thank you to my mentor Jake O’Driscoll for keeping me honest and sharp both physically and mentally. A massive thank you to all my sponsors as well Hyperfly MidnyteCity BlacMagik Finger Tape Bullet Proof for bjj and The Fight Dietitian
Thank you Flo Grappling and Riccardo Ammendolia for putting on such an amazing and professional event. It was an incredible experience and I can’t wait to be back again soon 👀
